Gina Watson Powell, originally from Crockett, Texas, earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University, and her master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Mrs. Powell served an apprenticeship with Lyric Opera Cleveland was appointed artist in residence with the Toledo Opera. Her operatic roles include Porgy and Bess, Suor Angelica in La Cenerentola, Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte, and Magda in La Rondine.
She has been guest artist with the Fairfax Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Smith Symphony, the Master Works Chorus of Washington, D.C., the U.S. Army Band, the West Point Army Band and Orchestra, the Bowling Green Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Chorus and the Dallas Wind Symphony.
She has performed Verdi’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Barber’s Knoxville Summer of 1915, and Porgy and Bess in concert.
Mrs. Powell was guest artist for the Northeastern Presbyterian Church Lenten Concert Series in Cleveland, Ohio; the Hines-Lee Opera Ensemble; the Houston County Fine Arts Association; and the Texas College of Women.
In July 2008, Ms. Powell was a featured artist in the National Portrait Gallery’s production “Bravo Gershwin” and in in January 2009 production “The Life of Todd Duncan.”
